Biarritz itself is a glitzy, luxurious town, ensuring it attracts as many well-heeled Parisians as surfers. In fact, it's the mixture of visitors that adds something to the 'je ne se quoi' of Biarritz. The eclectic mix of people has created a town that with a variety of traditional French eateries, chic high-end restaurants and cool 'surfy' bars and cafés.
Biarritz and the surrounding area are now well served by a number of airlines flying in and out of BAB (Biarritz, Anglet and Bayonne) Airport. Alternatively, you can also fly to the Spanish towns of Bilbao or San Sebastian and take the short drive north, or fly into Pau or Toulouse to the east. It is advisable to hire a car on a trip to Biarritz so that you can visit some of the great surrounding towns and beaches. If you want to surf then a trip to Cabreton, Segnosse and Hossegor should not be missed. And if it's culture you're after, take a trip down to the beautiful fishing village of San Jean De Luz.
Accommodation-wise you have a number of options: There are some good, yet cheap, campsites both south & north of Biarritz. These also have permanent tents and caravans if you really want to live it up! Likewise, there is a number of Gites around and some very swanky hotels; one of the best-positioned being the Hotel du Palais in the heart of the town, on the 'Grand Plage'.
