Les Arcs

Les Arcs is a resort found in the Savoie region of the French Alps, on the edge of the Vanoise National Park. Amazing panoramic views over the whole of the valley and Mont Blanc are offered whether you are looking at snow-capped peaks in winter, or lush green grasses and trickling streams in the summer. The resort is made up of four areas: Arc 1600, Arc 1800, Arc 1950 and Arc 2000, which provides great skiing at different altitudes.
Along with the resort La Plagne, Les Arcs forms the Paradiski area of France – as the resorts were joined in 2003 by the Vanoise Express Cable Car. Les Arcs provides over 200km of piste, and combined with La Pl... (Read more...)

agne, this tops a staggering 425km of winter playground!
This is a great area to go for family or mixed-ability holidays thanks to the huge range of piste terrain available, from casually winding blue runs to steep and terrifying black descents – there's also a decent-sized snow park for those looking to try out some spins and tricks.
Arc 1600 is good for families, and it is well known to be the friendliest town to stay in. It's easily accessible by funicular railway from the town of Bourg Saint Maurice at the bottom of the valley. Arc 1800 is the largest and most lively choice. This area is comprised of four smaller regions (however the boundaries between these are hard to distinguish). It's a great place to stay for mixed-ability groups; with nursery slopes and chairlifts from your front door leading straight to intermediate runs. It’s also good for those looking for some après-ski fun!
Higher up and over the mountain you'll find Arc 1950 and 2000. These resemble found North American resorts, such as Whistler, with luxury apartments and outdoor jacuzzis. What Arc 2000 misses out on nightlife, it makes up for with easy access to some of the resort's best and most challenging runs, as well as the Varet glacier. Les Arcs is also linked to the smaller and lower altitude resorts of Peisey-Villandry and Villaroger.
There is a range of other activities to try here if skiing isn’t for you, with the resort open during the summer months for walkers, hang gliders and mountain biking junkies. Les Arcs is a relatively short two-hour drive from Chambery airport, with Geneva, Lyon and Grenoble just a little further away.

It's that time again! As the summer shines its last warm rays, we look back on a great few months. Long days, late nights and even longer beaches; in many ways it was the perfect summer. But with the winter comes opportunity: downhill... Read full post...
