Skiing

Less well-known than its Swiss or French counterparts, the German Alps nevertheless boast many fine ski resorts. Enjoy the smooth runs of the towering Nebelhorn, which rises 7,297ft above sea level; Garmisch, Obersdorf, Mittenwald and Berchtesgaden are all well-established regions and offer all the expected access routes and colour-coded runs you could ever need.

Thanks to its varied terrain, you can expect challenges for experts and great beginners’ routes. In Germany, skiing is only possible in the winter months, but before the snow arrives, there’s always the mountains to enjoy.
