Located in the Himalayas on the Nepal-China border, Mt. Everest is the highest mountain above sea level in the world. At 29,002 ft. the climbing challenge attracts experienced mountaineers and novice climbers from round the world.

There have been more than 4,000 ascents to the summit, and climbers are an important part of the tourism industry in Nepal. By the end of 2009, Everest had claimed 216 lives.
