Kitesurfing is the fastest growing watersport of recent years, and the bays of Lagos were with it from day one. The strong Nortada wind and the large lagoons offer ideal conditions to learn and practice this thrilling sport on the Algarve. Northern wind is accelerated by the Serra de Monchique and hits the shallow water of the Alvor lagoon. This glassy, warm water combined with constant strong wind provides unbeatable kitesurfing weather.

Surfing truly is the sport that put Lagos on the watersports map. Constant Atlantic swells make it a perfect year round surfing destination. The summer months are great for beginners and intermediate surfers as the waves are not as powerful. Seasoned surfers will love the challenge of the winter months, as the ocean delivers strong swells which result in wave faces higher than 8ft. Meia Praia (Half beach) is one of Lagos’ most popular beaches. With soft white sands, it is one of the biggest bays in Europe. The lack of rocks in the area makes this coastline ideal for nautical activities. The flat waters of Meia Praia are perfect for speed and freestyle windsurfing. A couple of hours drive west of Lagos takes you to the famous wave-spot, Tonel. This exposed beach has consistent surf and very strong rips, and is a challenge for the most experience surfers!
