Location Details

Monte San Martino > Italy > Europe
Location Description
Le Marche is a delightful part of Italy - reasonably undiscovered by tourism and still brimming with wonderful medieval towns such as Sarnano (20 mins away) and San Ginesio (25 mins) where you will rarely hear anything but Italian spoken.

The house nestles in the foothills of the Sibillini Mountains (part of the Appennines) which offer wonderful opportunities for hiking and mountain biking as well as quadbiking. In winter visitors to Sei Camini can go skiing at Sassotetto, approximately 40 minutes drive from the house and, adjacent to it, the resort of Pintura near Bolognola. Further afield are the resorts of Frontignano near Ussita and Monte Prata near Castel San Angelo sul Nera.

The Adriatic Riviera is only 40 kms away with great beaches and facilities for children. Seafood lovers can eat like kings at the coast and carnivores are well catered for by the local restaurants serving meat 'alla brace'. The area is renowned for rustic true Italian cooking and even vegetarians will find plenty to choose from.

Daytrips to the wonderful renaissance towns of Assisi, Ascoli Piceno and Urbino are unmissable. Our local towns of Amandola and Sarnano have weekly markets where you can buy excellent regional produce and shoe lovers can pick up bargains from the factory outlets which sell Italy's most beautiful footwear to the public. Visit the stalactitic caves of Frasassi, the biggest stalactitic caves of Europe. One of it's underground halls is so enormous that it can house the cathedral of Milan. The guided tour lasts for around an hour; dress up warmly as the temperature inside is a constantly low 14 degrees C. There is a world renowned open air Opera season in Macerata (40 mins) and numerous festivals and carnivals in the local towns and villages across the year.
