Based in Kunming City, Yunnan Province in the extreme southwest of the country, this is a region famed for it large number of ethnic peoples, its year round temperate climate, and clean air. No other region in China can offer such a wide range of cultures, dress, foods and places of interest to visit. It truly is an amazing part of the world to see.
The main program has been set up around the study of martial arts for both beginners to experienced practitioners. Learn in depth from a high level Chinese Master the theory and principals of
• Shaolin Kung Fu
• Tai Ji Quan
• Qi Gong (Internal Energy Cultivation Practices)
From this base, South of the Clouds is then able to offer a wide range of learning or travel experiences. For example, some guests prefer to also have time to study Chinese Mandarin language, learn Chinese massage and calligraphy, partake in other activities such as cycling or trekking or take in the many beautiful sights and sounds of the region. Each program will be devised to suit an individual customer’s requirements.
Facilities on site include a restaurant providing delicious Yunnan fare, tennis court, badminton, games room, gymnasium, and bar, amongst others. Rooms provided are all complete with an on-suite facility as standard. This beautiful scenic area is so calm and frequented by wildlife you could be forgiven for thinking it was a long way from civilization as many know it. In fact, a short bus ride will take you direct into the centre of the capital city of Yunnan province.
So if you have an inquisitive spirit, a love of learning and thirst for adventure, then there is no where better to experience one of the most amazing countries and cultures of the world.

The centre has a first class set up to ensure your stay here is truly unforgettable. Rooms provided have an en-suite bathroom, there is a large dining hall for your meals and other facilities such as a bar, shops, barbeque area and much more. As a Western owned and run company South of the Clouds puts service and standards as a priority, meaning you only need to be concerned with learning and enjoying. Meals will be served from the restaurant on site. There are of course other options for eating and purchasing with a shop stocking a range of western goods, barbeques held regularly during the year and a bar. The food here in Yunnan is perhaps the finest in China. With the large mix of different ethnic people and cultures the range of variety is huge. This is reflected in the food and you will not be disappointed in the delicious Chinese dishes on offer during your stay. The facility itself is home to an unbelievable array of activities which can help you while away the time when not busy with your chosen subjects. There are tennis and badminton court, a swimming pool, gymnasium and snooker, to name but a few. Alternatively you could just take a walk in the forests surrounding the academy & make friends with some of the animals that live there or relax in the bar. |

Directions |
Travel into Kunming is possible from numerous different places. You can fly into one of China's international hubs such as Shanghai, Beijing, Guangzhou or Hong Kong and then connect to Kunming. Alternatively, you could fly into Thailand or Indonesia etc. and take a short flight into the airport here. Transport links to Kunming are very developed and increasingly expanding. It is viewed as the gateway from China to the rest of South East Asia so there are currently lots of air connections to Thailand, Indonesia etc. as well as a rail link which is currently underway to link Kunming through Laos, Thailand all the way down to Indonesia. A second airport is about to be constructed which reflects the amount of traffic which is catered for in this region. Once you arrive in Kunming Airport you will be collected by our friendly staff and assisted with settling in and any questions you may have can be answered. You will then be introduced to our team, your chosen teacher and also get a chance to meet our other guests. |
