Tarifa Kitesurfing

The small town of Tarifa is situated at the gateway of the Mediterranean, separated from Africa by the narrow nine mile stretch of water, the Strait of Gibraltar. In windsurfing, and now kitesurfing circles, Tarifa is famed for its strong and consistent winds. With average wind speeds of over 45 km/h, Tarifa has become a hub for these wind-blown watersports. The Levante and Poniente winds push through the narrow inlet to the Mediterranean, increasing in speed and hitting the long expanses of Tarifa's beaches. The windiest (and busiest) months are July and August, with average wind speeds topping 50 km/h.
